Reinforcing The Love

Episode 11 with Joshua Black

Dr. Joshua Black holds a MA and PhD in Psychology. He is a grief and bereavement researcher, speaker, educator, and host of the Grief Dreams Podcast. His life work focuses on dreams and continuing bonds after loss, including prenatal and pet loss. He currently works as the Bereavement Initiative Manager for the BC Centre for Palliative Care, where he is leading grief and bereavement research. Dr. Joshua also teaches psychology courses at the University of the Fraser Valley.

In this episode, Dr. Joshua talks about how grief dreams can be about any kind of loss — such as the loss of a job or home, not just a loved one dying — and how most grief dreams are positive in light. He then dives into his current studies with the homeless population and the unique challenges around working with their dreams. On a personal note, he describes how a high school heartbreak triggered the dream that first got him interested in the power of the unconscious as a life healing tool, and how a powerful dream he had after the sudden death of his father helped him through his bereavement process.
